Chimney Repair and Leadwork in Portsmouth
Chimneys and flashings are where most roofs let water in. Perished mortar, cracked brickwork and failed lead account for a large share of the leaks we are called out to.
We repoint and repair chimney stacks, and we replace lead flashing where it has split, lifted or been fitted too short in the first place. Lead that has simply been sealed over with mastic is a temporary fix that fails, and we see plenty of it.
Lead is dressed and fitted properly, in the right code for the job, with correct upstand and cover. Done well, leadwork outlasts almost everything else on a roof. Done badly, it is the first thing to fail.
Where a stack is redundant and beyond economic repair, we can remove it and make the roof good, so it stops being a maintenance liability.

Common questions
Chimney Repair and Leadwork, answered
Is mastic around my flashing a problem?
It is usually a sign the lead itself needs attention. Mastic buys a little time and then fails, so we replace or re-dress the lead rather than sealing over it again.
Can you remove a chimney we no longer use?
Yes, where it is safe and appropriate to do so, and we make the roof good afterwards.
How long should leadwork last?
Correctly dressed lead in the right code outlasts most other parts of a roof. Failures we attend are normally down to the wrong code or too short an upstand.
